Dr Kate Sotejeff-Wilson MITI

I translate and edit research publications for an expert, global, English-speaking audience, working with academics from all over Europe including the universities of Warsaw, Helsinki, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and the Goethe-Institut Finnland.

During my PhD in Polish history in 1999 I started translating and editing for other academics, then kept translating while working for a German NGO, and went full time when I moved to Finland in 2012. I am happiest in the space between languages or in an intercultural setting, particularly facilitating writing retreats and book clubs. I particularly enjoy bringing different voices together to create a shared story, in copywriting or for multiauthor, multilingual works.

I love “midwifing” people’s texts into being and when I’m not reading those, you’ll still most likely find me with my nose in a book.

My translations include
From Finnish Esa Kirkkopelto, Logomimesis (Routledge 2024) and Kimmo Katajala et al. (ed.) Vyborg: Historic Towns Atlas (Atlas Art 2020)
From Polish the children’s nonfiction book by Monika Utnik-Strugała and Anna Ładecka, Let’s go to Italy! (Little Gestalten 2019) and the popular history JM Piskorski, A Short History of Szcecin (PTPN 2002)
From German Regina Töpfer, Infertility in Medieval and Early Modern Europe: Premodern Views on Childlessness (Palgrave 2022)
My English copyediting includes Tuuli Lähdesmäki, Viktorija L.A. Čeginskas, Sigrid Kaasik-Krogerus, Katja Mäkinen and Johanna Turunen, Creating and Governing Cultural Heritage in the European Union (Routledge 2020) and Anna Ovaska, Fictions of Madness: Shattering Minds and Worlds in Modernist Finnish Literature (University of Helsinki 2020)
Other recent publications include a volume I coedited with Wendy Baldwin and Joana Pais Zozimo, Women Writing Socially in Academia (Palgrave 2023)
