Dr Maki Ikeda MITI

Politics, History and Art specialist.

After completing my PhD on the politics of Anglo-Irish relations at the University of Tokyo and briefly teaching in Trinity College Dublin, I became a freelancer in 2007 to pursue a long-time interest in writing and translation in the fields of politics, history and art. Now as MITI and trading as a UK limited company, I offer the highest quality of service for various organizations and authors who wish to transcend language barriers to reach the Japanese audience.

My mission is to faithfully represent the original English text in the form of natural and authentic Japanese which is both nuanced and in context, and thus to help people from different cultures effectively communicate with each other.

My particular strengths are in the areas of government policy and international relations (trade, sustainability, security, and other cooperation activities), modern history (British, Irish, other European, Japanese, other East Asian, American and global), visual arts and art history.

I also have vast experience of assisting general translation projects which require not only accuracy but also engaging prose and expression, such as advertising, public relations and media articles.

Main clients are UK government bodies, international organizations, consultancies, NPOs, museums and galleries as well as businesses across industries and the globe.

Published work includes『ヴァン・ゴッホ』 (Van Gogh, from Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo) and part of『MoMA ハイライト』(MoMA Highlights, from The Museum of Modern Art, New York) etc.
