Dr Isabel del Rio FITI

Isabel is a British-Spanish writer and linguist. She has extensive experience as a UN translator, reviser and terminologist, having worked as a full-time linguist for the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a UN agency in London, initially as a translator/reviser and then as Head of the Terminology and Reference Section. She has also worked as a full-time journalist, broadcaster and linguist for the BBC World Service. As a language practitioner, she has extensive experience in several language-related fields: institutional, literary and technical translation; lexicography and terminology; journalism and writing; broadcasting; scriptwriting and screenwriting; language technologies; and tutoring in creative writing and translation. She is also a voice-over artist (member of EQUITY) and has experience in public readings, Performance Poetry and Spoken Word. As an established writer, she has published poetry and fiction in both English and Spanish. Isabel has a five-year degree from Universidad Complutense in Madrid('Ciencias de la Información' - Level 7, EQF) and a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of West London (UWL).
