My specialisms are: banking, finance, legal, competition and energy policy, foreign affairs, cooperation and development, and EU issues. Another (much more delicious) specialism is chocolate, both eating it and providing tasting-and-terminology workshops.

I worked at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt for four years, honing my experience in translating banking supervision and monetary policy texts and editing highly technical texts written by non-English speakers. I've also held contracts with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation.

A key skill is to render complex Italian or French policy, regulatory and legislative texts in English that’s clear, concise and easy for international readers to understand.

Having lived in Italy for over 20 years, working as a translator and as a policy analyst in the Economic and Commercial Department of the British Embassy in Rome, I know the country and its institutions very well indeed. And being married to an Italian, I continue to use the language on a daily basis even though I’m based in Scotland. Every day is CPD day!

I have taught Translation Methodology and Master Classes on Translating for the Web as part of Glasgow University’s MSc in Translation Studies.

Lastly, I have an MA Hons in French and Economic History. So in some ways I've come full circle: working with languages on texts relating to economic history as it happens.
