Sarah McCartney will talk to the Network about the particular challenges faced when describing an invisible product, and when people will use wildly different words to describe the exact same aroma. Working on one language is tricky, so translating a perfume description into many others multiplies the difficulties. Add this to the fact that "notes lists" rarely bear any relation to the materials used to make a fragrance, and that the industry likes to keep its art secret.

Sarah worked as a copywriter for Lush for 14 years and ran a team of international writers and translators whose role was to turn Lush's British conversational style into one that would fit their own culture. She now has her own artisan fragrance company, 4160Tuesdays, and runs perfume making classes live and online under her fragrance training brand, Scenthusiasm. From her own experience, and her observation of the problems her students have encountered with naming, cultural concepts and copywriting, Sarah will share her mistakes and how to avoid them.
