The Russian Network is excited to announce a new venture – the RussNet Book Club!

Here’s how it will work:

  • The Book Club will be held online every 3 months
  • Sessions will alternate between reading and discussion in Russian and reading in English translation (nothing to stop you reading the Russian too, if you like!) with discussion in English.
  • All the texts will be fiction originally written in Russian
  • Books (at least in Russian) won't be long – though the English-language sessions may focus on longer translations
  • The next book will be announced well in advance, shortly after the previous session.

And the inaugural meeting is coming soon!

Natalia Karlina, whom many of you know from her Russian conversation meet-ups, will host the first session. Here’s her choice for the October meeting:

“Господин из Сан-Франциско” – Иван Бунин

It’s about 20 pages long, and you should be able to download it here.

If you don't use Russian professionally but are a confident reader, do consider downloading the text and having a go… The session will be relaxed and you need only say a few words!

If you are interested in joining Natalia, please email her so that she can send you the Zoom link. If you have any problems with the download, do reach out to her.

The Book Club will be run by and for its participants – so if you have any suggestions for future reading, please send them to one of your RussNet contacts! The Book Club looks forward to welcoming anyone who loves Russian literature…
