Katharina Wawrzon-Stewart MITI

Katharina Wawrzon-Stewart (or simply Kasia) is a London-based conference and public service interpreter, and translator. Her language combination is German (A), Polish (A) and English (B). She was born in Poland, grew up in Germany and has been living, studying, and working in the UK since 1995. Her main areas of expertise in conference interpreting are migration and asylum, political affairs, business, medicine, and European Works Councils. She provides her interpreting services both in person and remotely. Kari Koonin

Kari Koonin has over 35 years’ experience as a freelance Dutch, German and Afrikaans to English translator specialising in horticulture. She has also worked as an in-house translator and ran her own translation agency for a while.

Kari is a Fellow of the ITI and was chair of the ITI Professional Development Committee for many years. She gives frequent talks, workshops and webinars on a range of translation-related subjects. She has also taught on the translation MA course at the University of Westminster. Kari lives in West Sussex, and when she isn’t translating, you’ll either find her in her garden or taking part in wildlife and botany surveys on the South Downs.

Susie Jackson AITI

Biography

Susie Jackson is a Spanish-to-English translator and copy editor specialising in academic texts for the social sciences. She also mentors freelancers on pricing to help them figure out how much they should be charging and how to raise their rates with clients so that they can earn a decent living doing what they love.

Sarah Bowyer

Sarah Bowyer is a legal and sports translator working from French and Spanish into English under the name Crossbow Translations. Following a degree in Modern Languages from Cambridge University, she practised as a solicitor at large, international law firms for almost ten years before changing career. She is passionate about promoting collaboration and connections within the translation profession and is the Business Mentoring Coordinator of the ITI French Network and Membership Secretary of the North West Translators' Network. Her work was recently recognised with the ITI Best Newcomer (Freelancing) Award in 2020.

Ilir Hoti

Ilir Hoti joined Clear Voice Interpreting Services as a freelance interpreter in 2012, moving to an operations coordinator role by 2014. In 2020, Ilir became the Head of Operations, looking after the daily running of Clear Voice. Ilir has a strong background in the asylum support field. He is passionate about languages and the power they have in breaking down the communication barriers for those most in need of help. Ilir has a strong focus on the use of technology to make Clear Voice operate as a true 21^st century LSP, all the while providing great support for our clients and interpreters.

Hanna Hagström

Hanna has worked as a freelance translator and subtitler since 2006. She started her career as a subtitler at VSI in Stockholm. In 2014, she joined SDI Media, which later became Iyuno-SDI Group. She does closed captioning, subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing, translation from English and Danish into Swedish, audio description, QC, and she has assisted in training new subtitlers.

Hanna has a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees in Translation studies from The Institute of Interpreting and Translation Studies at Stockholm University. Currently, Hanna is a Ph.D. candidate at The Institute for Interpreting and Translation Studies, where she also teaches translation, subtitling, and translation theory.

Jessica Truelsen

Jessica Truelsen is Head of Project Management at Surrey Translation Bureau. She joined the industry in 2016 after gaining her MA in Translation Studies and has a specific interest in medical translation, as well as managing audio-visual and SEO projects. She is led by her strong passion for driving inclusivity across the industry for those at varying stages of their career and will be volunteering as a mentor for language graduates for the University of Westminster this summer.

Marie discovered a passion for translation when taking a literary translation course at the University of Seville in her Erasmus year. After completing an MSc in Translation and Conference Interpreting, she started her career as an in-house proofreader, revising translations for a large LSP. She then made the move to Project Management at Dora Wirth (Languages) Ltd, where she has worked since January 2014. DWL specialises in medical translations for the life sciences industry, with over 50 years experience in the sector.

Rik Grant

Rik is presenting the session Transcreation.

With more than 15 years in the industry, Rik possesses an in-depth understanding of the machinery of global advertising, adaptation, amplification & strategy for the world’s biggest brands. After graduating with a degree in Japanese he first cut his teeth in a specialist Asian-language translation agency before moving to the Tag group in 2011. Since then he has expanded his knowledge of cross-media production and creative strategy and works to help brands realise their full potential, irrespective of linguistic or cultural boundaries. Rik has worked across every media discipline and sector with clients including Facebook, P&G, Amazon, Reckitt Benckiser, Adyen, Arla Foods, Coca-Cola, DHL, Heineken and Toyota. In his spare time, Rik is an avid street photographer, guitarist, Iaido practitioner and PowerPoint guru.

Zoé Diderich

Zoe is a Luxembourger who grew up learning languages, as she moved to a range of countries throughout her childhood. She has always loved the idea of being able to communicate in different languages and across cultures. This led her to become an interpreter and she has since been working in London for over twenty years, starting off as an NHS interpreter, and moving on to legal settings as well as conferences.

She has been teaching interpreting at the University of Westminster for over 12 years.

Belen Bueso Rios

Belén Bueso Ríos completed her studies in Translation and Interpreting at the Complutense University of Madrid and started her career in the international educational sector. In 2014, she moved to London to join the Language Resource Centre at the International Secretariat of Amnesty International, which she leads since 2019.
